Daniel Radcliffe’s Parenting Advice is the Best Thing You’ll Read Today

We solemnly swear that Daniel Radcliffe is up to something truly remarkable. Besides his triumphant return to Broadway, the renowned actor is joyfully embracing the early days of parenthood, having welcomed a son with his longtime partner, Erin Darke, earlier this year.

Speaking to ET News at the opening night of Merrily We Roll Along in NYC on Oct. 8, Radcliffe shared his thoughts on this new chapter. “He’s great, it’s amazing,” Radcliffe exclaimed. “There’s a short answer and a long answer to that. The short answer is it’s awesome, and he’s the best thing that’s ever happened.

However, the long version is equally profound. Radcliffe elaborated, “It’s frankly terrifying to have a human being in the world that I care this much about, and everything he does will undoubtedly influence how I perceive my life for the rest of my days. So, you know, that’s intimidating.”

As a 34-year-old adapting to life as a new dad, Radcliffe is discovering many surprising facets of parenthood, such as the peculiarities of infant sleep patterns. “There’s no correlation to what we adults need for sleep,” he mused about their schedule. “The less I sleep, the more I sleep at night. But for them, the less they sleep, the less they sleep! Conversely, the more they sleep, the better they sleep! It may not make much sense, but apparently, that’s how it works.”

Moreover, Radcliffe is learning the art of forgiveness that comes uniquely with parenthood. “The fact that there is a little being in the world capable of giving you the most challenging night of your life,” he explained, “and then, when you wake up in the morning, you approach them, and they flash a smile, and suddenly, none of the difficulties matter. That’s pretty remarkable.

Despite the inevitable sleep deprivation, Radcliffe shared with ET News that this phase of his life has been nothing short of a “pinch me” moment, both personally and professionally. “It’s been an exceptionally wonderful year,” he confided. “I couldn’t wish to be in a better place.”
