Daytime Emmys 2023 Winners Crowned! From Young & Restless to General Hospital, Winners Reign!

Daytime Emmys 2023 Winners Crowned! From Young & Restless to General Hospital, Winners Reign!

In a delayed but much-anticipated celebration, the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys finally took place on Friday night at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The event, originally postponed due to Hollywood strikes, was broadcast live on CBS with Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner of “Entertainment Tonight” returning as hosts.

“General Hospital” stole the spotlight early on, securing a commanding lead with six awards. The acclaimed daytime drama took home honors for outstanding daytime drama, supporting actor and actress, younger actor, guest actor, and directing. On the other hand, “The Bold and the Beautiful” claimed victory in the lead actor and actress categories.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” emerged as a big winner, securing accolades for both outstanding daytime talk series and outstanding daytime talk series host. However, not all Daytime Emmys were presented on Friday night, as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences had a busy weekend planned.

The Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmys were scheduled for Saturday, December 16, along with the Children’s & Family Creative Arts Emmys. Additionally, the 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards and Trustees’ Gala were set for December 17.

Among the evening’s highlights, Susan Lucci, an iconic figure from “All My Children,” was honored with the lifetime achievement award, presented by Shemar Moore. The celebration continued on Saturday, with talk show veteran Maury Povich receiving his Daytime Emmys lifetime achievement honor, presented by his wife, veteran TV news journalist Connie Chung.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Daytime Emmys, several legendary daytime stars served as presenters, including Lauralee Bell, Peter Bergman, Michael Damian, Melody Thomas Scott, Drake Hogestyn, Mary Beth Evans, Finola Hughes, Donnell Turner, Laura Wright, A Martinez, Kim Whitley, John McCook, and Heather Tom.

ABC’s “General Hospital” led the nominations with 19, followed by CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” with 14, “The Young and the Restless” with 13, NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” with 11, and the syndicated “The Kelly Clarkson Show” also with 11.

During the telecast, NATAS chairman Terry Reilly acknowledged that this was the first major awards show post the Hollywood strikes. The event honored programs that aired from Jan. 1, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2022. Reilly also paid tribute to the late TV titan Norman Lear. The show began with a posthumous Daytime Emmy for supporting actress awarded to the late Sonya Eddy of “General Hospital.” The event also paid homage to Tyler Christopher, an actor from “General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives,” who passed away in October. Connie Chung introduced the In Memoriam segment, paying tribute to Barbara Walters and introducing Jennifer Nettles for a special performance.
