Hawaiian Shore Alert: 30-Foot Waves Expected, Brace for Epic Surf

Updated on 27 Dec 2023 : The National Service issued a caution on Tuesday regarding elevated surf levels, reaching up to 30 feet (9 meters) along certain Hawaiian shores.

This high surf advisory is in place for the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, and Niihau, as well as the north-facing shores of Maui.

Anticipate waves ranging from 10 to 15 feet (3 to 4.5 meters), escalating to 25 to 30 feet (7.62 to 9 meters) from Tuesday night through Wednesday along the north shores.

The weather service warning highlighted potential impacts on coastal properties and roads due to ocean surges. The advisory emphasized the presence of powerful longshore and rip currents at most beaches.

Meteorologist Derek Wroe from the weather service in Honolulu noted that sizable waves are not unusual during Hawaii’s winter months.

Residents are advised to stay informed about this Hawaiian Shore Alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
