NBA Probes Josh Giddey: Thunder Guard Faces Allegations Involving a Minor

The NBA is currently investigating allegations circulating on social media concerning Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey and an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor, as disclosed by league spokesman Mike Bass on Friday. The inquiry was prompted by posts from an anonymous user linking Giddey, 21, to an underage female.

During the Thunder’s media availability on Friday, both Giddey and Thunder coach Mark Daigneault refrained from commenting on the situation. When asked about the allegations, Giddey responded, “I understand the question obviously, but there’s no comment right now.”

Despite the ongoing investigation, the Thunder maintain a strong record, standing at 11-4, securing six consecutive victories, and holding the second position in the Western Conference. Their next game is against the Philadelphia 76ers (10-5) on Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Josh Giddey, a third-year guard for the Thunder, boasts impressive statistics, averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Recognized as one of the league’s top young all-around guards, he showcased his potential as a potential All-Star last season with 28 double-doubles and five triple-doubles. Giddey’s contributions included averages of 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists, with a shooting accuracy of 48.2% from the field.

Teaming up with All-NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder feature one of the league’s most promising young backcourts. Giddey, selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 draft, hails from Melbourne, Australia, and initially participated in the NBA’s Global Academy before joining Adelaide in Australia’s pro league. He earned a spot on the NBA’s All-Rookie second team in 2021-2022.

Adding to his achievements, Giddey played for Australia in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where he received the Rising Star Award for his outstanding performance. As the investigation unfolds, the Thunder and Giddey face a challenging situation amid their successful season.
