Osceola Magic Acquire Rising Stars Simms and McClung

The Osceola Magic have made some significant moves in acquiring player rights in recent announcements. They acquired the returning player rights to Aamir Simms from the Rip City Remix in exchange for the returning player rights to Drake Jeffries. Additionally, they acquired the returning player rights to Mac McClung from the Delaware Blue Coats in exchange for the returning player rights to Jeff Dowtin and a second-round pick in the 2024 NBA G League Player Draft.

Aamir Simms, who was part of the Rip City team in the 2023-24 NBA G League Expansion Draft, most recently played for the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Summer League. Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 245 pounds, Simms had a productive season with the Westchester Knicks in the 2021-22 season, where he averaged 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 23 games, including 16 starts. He showcased his shooting skills with a 39.4% three-point shooting and impressive free throw accuracy at 89.3%.

Simms also had a notable college career at Clemson University, playing in 122 games with 100 starts. He averaged 9.2 points and 5.2 rebounds during his four seasons there. His performance earned him accolades, including All-Atlantic-Coast Conference Third-Team in 2020 and All-ACC Second-Team in 2022.

On the other hand, Mac McClung is a versatile player at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds. He played two games last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, showcasing his skills with averages of 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 20.5 minutes per game. In the NBA G League, with Delaware, he played 31 games, making 28 starts, and played a crucial role in helping the Blue Coats secure the 2022-23 NBA G League championship. McClung is also known for his impressive Slam Dunk contest win during NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City.

McClung’s journey in the NBA includes stints with the Chicago Bulls, L.A. Lakers, and 76ers, where he averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 16.3 minutes per game over four career NBA regular-season games. In the NBA G League, he boasts an impressive record, averaging 20.6 points, 6.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.14 steals in 58 games while showcasing strong shooting percentages.

McClung’s college career includes playing for Georgetown University and Texas Tech University, where he displayed scoring prowess and earned accolades as part of the Big East All-Freshman Team during his time at Georgetown.

The Osceola Magic, affiliated with the Orlando Magic, have been making strategic moves, and they recently relocated from Lakeland to Osceola, specifically Kissimmee. The team has a strong presence in the NBA G League, and their recent achievements include winning the 2021 NBA G League Finals. They posted a solid 18-14 record last season, which ranked them eighth in the competitive G League.
