Pink Reveals She Nearly Died of a Drug Overdose: A Must-Read Story of Recovery

In a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Pink candidly shares her tumultuous past, unveiling that she came dangerously close to a drug overdose in the 1990s. The pop icon, whose real name is Alecia Moore, revealed her harrowing journey from a turbulent upbringing to near-tragedy and her subsequent rise to fame.

Pink reflected on her challenging childhood, marred by daily confrontations between her parents, marked by screaming and violent outbursts. “I grew up in a house where every day my parents were screaming at each other, throwing things. They hated each other,” Pink disclosed to Cecilia Vega.

At that time, she described herself as a “punk,” leading her down a troubled path of substance use and even dealing. This tumultuous phase eventually resulted in her expulsion from her family home and her decision to drop out of high school. “I was off the rails,” she admitted.

The turning point in her life came on Thanksgiving day in 1995 when she attended a rave. On that fateful night, she consumed a dangerous mix of substances, including ecstasy, angel dust, and crystal. The result was a near-fatal overdose, a traumatic experience that she vividly remembers. It was a harrowing combination that almost claimed her life.

Fortunately, this marked the last time Pink engaged in the use of “hard drugs.” In the weeks following the overdose, she secured her first record deal with an all-girls R&B group. This pivotal moment eventually paved the way for her remarkable solo career, where she adopted the “teenage nickname” that the world now knows her by.

Pink’s journey has been nothing short of inspirational. She shared her unwavering commitment to self-improvement, both physically and emotionally, stating, “I keep demanding more and more from myself physically, emotionally, spiritually, vocally. I want to raise the bar all the time.” Refusing to conform to societal expectations that women should slow down or shrink, Pink remains resolute in her determination to keep pushing boundaries and embracing life to the fullest.

She concludes with a powerful statement: “That’s what I plan on doing.”
